What is Business Coaching?
Business Coaching is an extraordinary partnership between two or more people that commit to a common goal or future for a business. It is directed towards the enhancement of the entire organization and is focused and committed to transformation of the organization's culture by building on skills that the client already possesses and helps in the navigation towards where the client want to go.
How is Business Coaching different than Consulting and Mentoring?
Business coaches use the process of inquiry, analysis, contemplation and resolution for the purpose of enhanced performance of the organization and its teams. Specific business expertise and experience is not mandated in order to be a good business coach.
Business Consulting is usually with an expert in the same field, who generally provides recommendations/solutions which the organization then implements
Mentoring is a relationship where usually an experienced person in the same field, teaches, guides, and/or nurtures a newer person to that field.
What makes a successful coaching partnership?
Coaching works when there are two factors present:
1) The client is willing to grow, and
2) There is a gap between where they are now and where they want to be.
Successful coaching clients know the value of sharing ideas with someone who understands them and is subjective enough not to want a lot for them, yet objective enough not to be biased or self-serving. Talking about options with someone who can listen, is often enough to have it all become very clear.
Coaching is successful when there is synergy between the client and the coach as they become a team that focuses on goals and results. Within the structure of coaching, the client is accountable for the actions and desired outcomes. The coach is there to propel forward thinking and provide guidance.
How can a Business Owner / Executive / Manager/ use a coach?
Coaching creates an environment where there is freedom from judgment and freedom from expectations that executive behave according to typical corporate mandates. In this environment it is safe to question, to appear vulnerable, to observe, to explore, experiment, to learn and change. That allows the executive to use the coach...
- To enhance his/her leadership performance
- To create or sustain a vision
- To build leadership skills
- To provide a company culture orientation to new employees
- To address professional or personal adversities in a proactive manner
- To have a balanced life
